Description / Background

This war memorial consists of an aeroplane engine mounted on a pole, with a plaque attached to a large boulder positioned at its base. It is located at the rest stop and information board on the side of the Olympic Highway in Uranquinty. 

Also on site is a plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of flight training.

5 Service Flying Training School RAAF Uranquinty

within the Empire Air Training Scheme

during World War ll graduated over fifteen hundred pilots

for the defence of Australia and the Commonwealth.

In remembrance of those killed

and especially those without known graves.
