Description / Background

Memorial park officially opened by the Governor of NSW on 4 May 1949 in honour of those who served in the First and Second World Wars. The park was opened to the public later that year on 22 October. At the entrance to the park are a set of brick and iron memorial gates with marble honour roll tablets, listing names from both wars, unveiled at the same time as the park. Within the park is a granite obelisk for the First World War with a relief carving of the Australian Military Forces badge and a dedication. The obelisk was moved to the park from elsewhere in the town prior to opening.
