Description / Background

A fine marble honour roll, illustrated to resemble a scroll hanging from an arch. The scroll bears the names of those who served in the First World War, including the fallen. The scroll is bordered by a depiction of two columns, which support the arch. The was made by prominent stonemason M.W. Hardy.

On 24 July 1920, The Uralla Times and District Advocate listed the names to be placed on the roll. Headmaster of Uralla Public School, Mr J. H. McAlpine asked for any omitted names to be fowarded to him.

Under the auspices of the local branch of the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' Imperial League, Anzac Day 1921 was observed by unveiling the roll at the school. The Armidale Chronicle, 30 April 1921 described the occasion. Headmaster McAlpine addressed the audience, as did the Mayor Ald. W. M. Elliott, Mr A. McClelland M.L.A. and church representatives. The Salvation Army played appropriate music and a memorial service was conducted by the clergymen. In reporting the unveiling in the 30 April 1921 issue, the Uralla Times published all names on the roll.

The Uralla Public School was established in January 1862 and became a Central School in 1962.
