St Brendan's Church First World War Memorial Shrine, Ganmain

The memorial is a sandstone shrine, containing a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and topped with a stone Celtic cross. The memorial was created to perpetuate the memory of the young men from the parish of St Brendan's Catholic Church who served in the First World War. The inscription and names of 38 parishioners are engraved in black on marble plaques attached to the sandstone base. The maker's name, Bailey & Baumer, is recorded on the sandstone plinth.

The memorial is situated in front of St Brendan's Church and is visible from the roadway. The nearest cross street is Camp Street.

The memorial shrine was unveiled and dedicated on Sunday 22 December 1918 in the presence of a large congregation including representatives from surrounding districts. The unveiling was performed by his Lordship the Right Reverend Dr J W Dwyer, Bishop of Wagga. Other speakers included Reverend Father O Clarke and Mr J F O'Regan of the Wagga Hibernian Society.

The Catholic Press, (Sydney) 2 January 1919 described the shrine in detail: composed of Ravensfield stone it stood on a substantial foundation with marble slabs on the base. An inscription and the names of those who served are written in black on the marble slabs. Marble slabs enclose the sides of the canopy and under the canopy stands a pure white statute of Our Lady of Lourdes at four and a half feet high. The memorial made by Bailey and Baumer cost £80.
