Veteran Notes/Bio

George Edwin Mortiboy, 27, was born in Granville and he attended Auburn Public School. A commercial traveller, Mortiboy enlisted in Brisbane on 8 April 1918, nominating his father in South Parade, Auburn as his next-of-kin.

Private Mortiboy sailed on the Osterely on 5 May 1918, arriving in Liverpool, United Kingdom on 10 July 1918. He was allocated to the 41st Battalion but he never crossed to France. Classed as B fitness, he remained in the UK until embarking on the Aeneas to return to Australia. He disembarked on 27 November 1919. As Mortiboy had not crossed to France, he was not awarded the Victory Medal, only the British War Medal. In 1966, Mortiboy died at North Sydney aged 76.
