Albert Victor Chivers served in the First World War (service no. 2611, 1st AIF). He was shipped to Egypt, then to the Western Front in France, where he fought in the trenches at the Battle of Fromelles. He suffered from trench foot but recovered. He was attached to the 1st Australian Tunnelling Company for a week, then returned to the 56th Battalion during the Third Battle of Ypres, and then fought in defensive positions near Villiers-Bretonneux.
After the war ended, Albert returned to his family in Ingleburn, and met and married Hilda Annabel Mcilveen and raised a family. When the Second World War broke out, Albert re-enlisted in the Army (service no. NX156117, 2nd AIF). He was 45 years old. He became a Warrant Officer Class I with 4th Battalion Headquarters. Albert served until 4 January 1945. He passed away on 13 February 1976.
