Ellalong Public School First and Second World War Memorial Gates Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial consists of two stepped-in, flat-topped, sandstone gate pillars marking the entrance to the school. The front face of each pillar has an inscription and a marble plaque containing the honour roll names. Between the inscription and each plaque is an engraving of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces badge. The Ellalong Memorial Gates were installed at the entrance to Ellalong Park on Saturday 30 July 1921. Marble slabs listed the names of soldiers from the local area who had fought in the First World War. Due to damage, the gates were removed at an unknown date. In the 1940's fundraisers were held in the local community to create new gates and a new marble slab to list the names of soldiers from the local area who had fought in the Second World War. The new gates were installed at the entrance to Ellalong Public School on Saturday 11 December 1948.
