Armidale School Old Boys and Masters Great War Memorial Gates Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background These memorial gates are located at the Douglas Street entrance to The Armidale School (T.A.S.). They include a small, single gate for pedestrians and a larger, double-gate for vehicles. The gates are made from iron and feature the letters 'T.A.S.' in the metalwork. They are hung on large brick pillars, which frame the driveway. On the pillar on the southern side of the driveway is a metal honour roll, commemorating students and teachers from the school who were killed in action during the First World War. The gates were designed/made by F.G. Castleden of Newcastle, NSW. They were dedicated by Armidale's Anglican Bishop Moyes on 30 January 1936. The Armidale Express, 31 January 1936, described the gates and dedication ceremony in detail, and listed the names of those inscribed. The roll may have been repositioned on the pillar since this time. Inscription "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them" Old Boys and Masters of The Armidale School killed in the Great War 1914–1918 [Names] Related links DEDICATION CEREMONY (31 Jan 1936) Veterans listed on this memorial Veterans listed on this memorial Sort by Family nameGiven nameWar Order AscDesc Items per page 1050100- All - Apply Last held rank Given name Family name Conflict/s Service No. Service Campaign Read more Corporal C R McDougall First World War, 1914–18 70 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Gallipoli 1915 view Lance Corporal M W Pearse First World War, 1914–18 2461 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1918 view Second Lieutenant C W L Pulling First World War, 1914–18 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Gallipoli 1915 view Lieutenant H D E Ralfe First World War, 1914–18 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1918 view Captain H W H Rawson First World War, 1914–18 view Lieutenant L G K Ross First World War, 1914–18 4363 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1918 view Lieutenant B Rundle First World War, 1914–18 1926 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1916 - 1917 view Gunner C F St Clair First World War, 1914–18 3401 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1918 view Lieutenant T N H Stretch First World War, 1914–18 534 Australian Army - First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) Somme 1918 view Sergeant W N L Taylor First World War, 1914–18 view Pagination « First First page ‹ Previous Previous page 1 2 3 4 5 Next › Next page Last » Last page Do you know more about this war Memorial?
