Brunswick Heads Memorial Hall Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This local hall is a significant venue and public asset for the Brunswick Heads community. Its status as a memorial hall recognises the contribution of the area’s citizens during the First and Second World Wars. The building is in regular use for public meetings, displays and social activities for members of the Brunswick Heads community. The hall is a symmetrical brick building with a high façade and awning over the front entrance in the centre of the building. On either side are brick sections which balance the building. It is typical of the architectural styles of the 1950s. The Northern Star (Lismore), 20 September 1948 reported that at the annual meeting of the Brunswick Hall subscribers, it was decided to engage with the RSL to discuss a proposal to build a new hall as a war memorial building. It was not for several years that steps such as plans and estimating costs proceeded (Northern Star, 29 November 1952). While it is unclear exactly when the hall was constructed or opened, newspaper coverage continued through 1953 and 1954, indicating planning, management and financing continued to be debated. In an article in the Northern Star on 26 August 1953, it was reported that Byron Shire Council had decided to apply to the Department of Lands for portion of the recreation reserve for erection of the hall with an estimated cost of 10,000 pounds.
