Description / Background

The monument consists of two freestone pillars each 0.6m wide and 0.3m deep. The pillars are faced with marble tablets displaying inscriptions and an honour roll in lead lettering. They are surmounted by a pediment featuring relief carvings of a pair of crossed rifles, a laurel wreath and a rising sun. The pillars support metal gates, which are 3m wide. The gates are of ornamental ironwork by Larcombe & Co. of Lidcombe, to their own designs, and cost £150. In 2003, the gates were moved back due to movement by encroaching tree roots. The memorial is located on the southern end of the school.
