Description / Background

Stone memorial structure, comprising six ancient Greek styled columns supporting a roof, and surrounding an inner core on which the names of soldiers are located. This structure is mounted on the traditional three steps, often representing the Trinity. The memorial was unveiled on Anzac Day 1928. Earlier, the foundation stone for the circle of columns was laid by Major-General Sir Charles Rosenthal, war time commander of the Australian Imperial Force's (A.I.F.) Second Division. The memorial is located in the foreground of the Canada Bay City Council Chambers.
