Description / Background

This large timber honour roll lists 59 names of those from the Gladstone district who served in the First and Second World Wars. The monument is made of solid polished maple and contains two removable panels of Gothic design. It was made by Frank Kneipp of Belgrave Street, Kempsey. A memorial altar is located nearby.

On Monday 21 April 1941, a concert was held in the Gladstone School of Arts Hall with the proceeds to be devoted to the construction of the roll. A few months later, the roll was ready. The Macleay Argus, 11 July 1941 described the unveiling in the Methodist Church, conducted by Mrs Williams of Yarrahappini who had four brothers in the First World War and two sons in the Second World War.
