The foundation stone was laid on 3 May 1924. A series of memorials are located under the front verandah near the entrance. The largest and most striking is an ornately carved marble honor roll commemorating soldiers from the First World War. Their names are listed in two columns. On each side of this memorial are brass plates engraved with the names of soldiers from the Second World War. Their dedication is engraved on a third plate positioned above the marble plaque. On a nearby wall there are also two small plaques commemorating the men from Manilla who served in the Boer War. Inscription Foundation stone This stone was set by the honourable Dr. Earle page M.P.
