Mathoura First and Second World Wars Memorial Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Mathoura First and Second World Wars Memorial was unveiled on Anzac Day, 25 April 1934. It is a granite and marble monument, with four columns supporting a domed roof. Dedications and honour rolls are inscribed on the sides of the monument. Notes on veterans' names: No records can be found for deceased veterans from this area with the following names: H Turner, J Tweedie, G Cowell, F Dawson, H Dawson, T Estler, P Farrell, E Faulkner, E G Hipworth, S Muir, A Sinclair, H Sinclair. Their status codes have been given as killed in action (KIA), as that is what is indicated by the memorial. J Borella is recorded in National Archives documents as having passed away after being discharged. All other status codes are taken from information in the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour and the National Archives of Australia. Inscription Monument - front Erected by the citizens of the Murray Shire as a tribute of gratitude to the men of the district who fell in the Great War 1914-19. Their names live for evermore.
