Description / Background

Turned trachyte stone column surmounted by a sculpted lamp and flame, the whole resting upon a stone combination pillar and base. First World War names are inscribed with gilt lettering on trachyte panels set within the body of the pillar. Names associated with the Second World War and subsequent conflicts are gilt on one side of the pillar and on granite panels attached to the memorial's base.

This memorial was erected in memory of the men of this district who fought for the cause of freedom in the Great War. 1914-1919. Unveiled 25th April 1923.

Rededicated 11.11.1990.
