Nelligen War Memorial consists of a Bowral trachyte pedestal, surmounted by a white marble statue of a First World War soldier with arms reversed. The memorial is approximately 5 meters high. First World War names are incised and guilded on the polished surfaces of the pedestal. Of the adult male population of Nelligen at the time of the War, 32% enlisted. Voluntary labour prepared the site for the memorial, which cost about £300, and it was delivered for free by the Illawarra Steamship Navigation Company. Additional dedications and names for subsequent conflicts have been added to the base on bronze plaques at later dates.
The monument has been vandalised several times over the years, however a grant from the 'Saluting Their Service' program has restored the most recent damage and added the sandstone now visible.
