Sydney Technical High School First World War Honour Roll Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The First World War honour roll at Sydney Technical High School, shown in image 1 above, is the second version of this roll. The original roll, shown in image 4 above, was built in 1917. It was crafted from oak by woodwork teacher Mr Humprey, in honour of the school's students and teachers who served in the war. As seen in the image, two magnificent carved columns framed the board, and at the bottom of the columns were two bronze laurel wreaths, inscribed with the names of theatres of service. The original roll was unveiled on 24 May 1917, at the school's former location in the grounds of Sydney Technical College at Ultimo. Minister of Education Mr James performed the ceremony, which was reported in The Sun that day. The original roll listed 152 names. Some time later, it was remodelled or replaced and a second board was added with a further128 names. The newer roll retains the two original wreaths and the original decorative emblem made up of the school's initials. It does not include the columns, which have disappeared. The memorial is located at the main entrance building of the school, close to the auditorium.
