Description / Background

The Upper Macleay War Memorial is a headstone-shaped monument, made of white marble. Attached to its two main faces are four rectangular black marble tablets, bearing an honour roll for the First and Second World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam.

The memorial is decorated with a Latin cross, carved into the marble, and two Rising Sun emblems. It sits on a three-step concrete platform, with three flagpoles positioned directly behind it. The whole is surrounded by a white metal fence and is illuminated by two flood lights at ground level.

The memorial is located opposite the doctor's surgery, on the left-hand side of the main road at Bellbrook. Nearby is a Lone Pine planted in 1998 by local school children. At its base is a bronze plaque attached to a concrete plinth that was erected by Kempsey-Macleay RSL sub-Branch in 1999. The surrounding garden bed was dedicated to Jim Phillips, for his service to the sub-Branch.
