First World War Honor Roll Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background A square, red-brick clock tower standing approximately 5m high, situated in the middle of the road at the intersection of Rose and Church Streets. It was constructed by the Wee Waa Returned Soldier's League from funds raised locally. It was dedicated on 7 September 1938 by Minister for Lands Mr CA Sinclair. Originally honouring those who served or fell in the First World War, commemorative plaques have been added over the years to include the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War. Vapour lights were added on 21 August 1939. The clock was restored around December 1976 and refurbished around February 1999. It was also unfortunately desecrated on 7 July 1981. A marble honor roll is also attached to one side of the tower. It commemorates 20 veterans from the Wee Waa lodge of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (M.U.I.O.O.F.) who served in the First World War. The roll was constructed by M.W. Hardy. It was unveiled in September 1919 and moved to the tower at a later date. Inscription Roll 1914 For King and Country 1918 Loyal King Edward Lodge No. 214 Wee Waa M.U.I.O.O.F.
