Description / Background

The Balranald War Memorial is a rectangular pillar monument, made of granite, positioned on three steps. The pillar is topped with a statue of a soldier, holding a down turned rifle. Accompanying the memorial is a 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft cannon.

The names of First and Second World War veterans have been inscribed into polished grey granite plaques on two sides of the pillar. The Second World War plaque is an addition to the original memorial. On the remaining two sides, plaques have been attached in memory of veterans who served in Korea and Vietnam. The Korean memorial is a small cast bronze plaque with the inscription and Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force badges across the top. The Vietnam memorial is a small black plaque with veterans' names printed in white. Next to the names is a photograph of helicopters landing with troops nearby.

The memorial is located in Balranald's Anzac Park. The town's Anzac Day march commences at 10.30am from Balranald RSL Club on Market Street and proceeds to the park for the Anzac Day service.
