Description / Background

This memorial arch consists of four stucco pillars, connected by a wrought iron arch. The arch features the words 'Lest we forget' and the Australian Military Forces emblem. The pillars are joined by matching wrought iron gates. There are multiple white marble tablets attached to the pillars, as well as several bronze plaques.

The gates provide a formal entrance to the Canowindra Memorial Park, opened on 11 November 1947. On 16 June 1948, the Molong Express and Western District Advertiser outlined the extensive works Boree Shire Council had undertaken in the park, prior to the opening. Improvements included constructing the arch. The whole of the materials, including the gates on the arch, were manufactured by council staff. A stonemason from Orange assisted council to inscribe the names on the tablets free of charge.

Also on site is the Canowindra War Memorial
