Description / Background

The Deniliquin Cenotaph is a large stone archway, located at the entrance to Waring Gardens in Deniliquin, NSW. The cenotaph consists of a wide central pillar, featuring a laurel wreath and an honour roll for the First World War on its front and back sides.

The pillar is flanked by two stone archways, each formed by two stone walls and a lintel block. The lintels each bear an inscription and one wall of each arch has an honour roll for the Second World War attached. Honour rolls are also present on the backs of three of the walls for the Second World War, later conflicts, and peacekeeping missions in which Australia has been involved. There are also separate plaques in honour of servicewomen in the Second World War and for those who served in the Korean War.

The foundation stone for the cenotaph was laid on 30 March 1922 and it was unveiled on 12 October 1922.

Planted in a garden bed behind the cenotaph is the Deniliquin Lone Pine
