Description / Background

This honour roll was created by the Dungog RSL sub-Branch and is mounted in the foyer of the Dungog Memorial RSL Club, alongside earlier honour rolls. The criteria for inclusion is for an individual to have had war or warlike service (active) service since 1975, and have an affiliation to the Dungog district through birth, schooling, next of kin, or residing (with qualifications).

The honour roll is made of timber, stained and lacquered to be the same as earlier honour rolls. The lettering is in gold leaf. The memorial was made by Royce Faulkner of Think Graphic Communication in Boolaroo, NSW.

The project was conceived and delivered by the Project Officer, Martin Holmes CSM, who was a sub-Branch member. Mr Holmes says the roll is significant for the local community "as it only covers modern veterans with war/warlike service who have an affiliation with the Dungog district. It is the only one in the district."

The unveiling ceremony was conducted on Saturday, 2 April 2022 at the RSL Club. Mr Holmes was the Master of Ceremonies and the official guests were the President RSL NSW, Ray James OAM; the President Dungog RSL sub-Branch, Neil Tickle; and the Mayor of Dungog Shire Council, John Connors. The unveiling was jointly performed by Mr James and Mr Tickle. The honour roll was dedicated by Reverend Kim Hodges (Dungog Anglican Parish) and Padre Gordon Crimp (Dungog Baptist Church). The date of the unveiling is marked on the back of the roll.

Funding for the unveiling ceremony and the construction of the memorial was through a 'Saluting Their Service' grant from the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs.

The roll is located above a doorway inside the RSL Club. Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies take place on site.
