Gloucester Methodist Church First World War Honor Roll Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This honor roll consists of a bronze inscription plaque and 15 small incised name plates, all attached to a timber backing board. The larger inscription plaque is positioned at the top, above the names. It is ornately decorated with a classical 'pediment' design, featuring stylised columns on the left and right sides which are joined by a curved top piece. This creates an arch around the inscription. The roll was presented to the Gloucester Methodist Church by Mr and Mrs Brooker. It was dedicated on site by Reverend C.T. Lusby on 19 October 1919. At the same time a separate plaque for the Reverend R.H. Pittendrigh, who fell in the First World War, was also unveiled. Both memorials were constructed by the Wunderlich Company of Sydney and have similar features. On 22 October 1919 The Gloucester Advocate described the unveiling of the roll and plaque in detail. The original Methodist Church was built in 1913 and then moved to its present position in December 1946. A new church building for the Gloucester Uniting Church was constructed in 1968. Access to the memorial is restricted by the opening hours of the Uniting Church.
