Gloucester Presbyterian Church First World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This honour roll is hanging inside the Gloucester Presbyterian Church. It is a timber board with a curved Norman-shaped top and has supporting shelves at the top and bottom, as well as carved columns on either side. It lists the names of those who served in the First World War. The Gloucester Advocate, 8 October 1929 reported that the church had received the roll as a gift from Mrs J.R. Higgins of Faulkland. It was made by Anthony Hordern and Co. of Brickfield Hill, Sydney, and was to take the place of two flags that contained the names of those who had paid the supreme sacrifice. The Newcastle Morning Herald, 23 October 1929 published a detailed account of the service held on 20 October. Reverend S. Russell Scott presided and conducted the public worship attended by a large and representative congregation. A special address was delivered by the State Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, the Right Rev. G.R.S. Reid. The roll was then unveiled and Rev. Scott publicly thanked Mrs Higgins for her gift. A number of ex-servicemen were present and the Boy Scouts formed a guard of honour.
