Description / Background

Stone ceremonial gates on the western side of Lambton Park, opposite Peason Street. Honour roll plaques are on the front faces of each pillar.

"Kangaroos take pride of place at Great War gates.

Two bronze kangaroos, each weighing 60 kilograms, have been restored to their former glory atop the Lambton Park war memorial gates ... A special dedication ceremony for the new kangaroos was held during the service held at the memorial gates by the Lambton–New Lambton RSL Sub Branch on ANZAC Day."

Foundation stone

This foundation stone was laid by the Hon. J. Estell M.P. on the 19th October 1918 C.E. Hardy Esq J.P., Mayor.

Base of pillar

Erected by the citizens of Lambton to perpetuate the memory of the men of the district who fought in the World's Greatest War 1914 - 1918. Eric G Yeomans Esq., Hon Architect.

Edward Charlton J.P., Mayor 1916-18. Inaugurator of the movement to erect these gates.

Thomas Croudace, Mayor 1884-5. Founder of this park.
