Description / Background

This war memorial is a timber roll of honour. It features two carved columns, which create a frame around the centre panels where the inscriptions and names are printed in gold. The columns are decorated with simple carvings of crossed rifles and anchors.

The memorial is dedicated to members of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (M.U.I.O.O.F.) who served in the Second World War. Those on the roll belonged to the number 203 Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, of the Tamworth District.

The lodge was established at the town of Barraba by June 1903. It is likely the roll was unveiled or display at the location in town where the lodge meetings were held.

The roll has since been moved to the Barraba Historical Museum, also known as the Nandewar Historical Society Museum. Also on site is the M.U.I.O.O.F. Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge No. 203 Tamworth District Great War Roll of Honor, Barraba.
