Niangala First World War Roll of Honor Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This roll of honor is a pressed bronze plaque, attached to a timber backing board. It is decorated with depictions of eucalyptus leaves at the top, the Union Jack and Australian flags in the middle and crossed swords and canons towards the bottom. The names of those from the Niangala area who served in the First World War are inscribed on individual plates and attached to the centre of the board. There are 22 names in total and they are not in alphabetical order, which suggests names were added as men enlisted. It should also be noted the end year of the war is not included on the roll. The dates read '1914' to '191'. While the history and unveiling details of this roll are not known, we can confidently say it was made by the Wunderlich Company in Sydney. They made many war memorials of this style and this is a good example of their high-quality work. The roll is located in the Niangala Memorial Hall. It is available to view during opening hours. Also on site is the Niangala Second World War Honour Roll. Do you know more about this war memorial? Learn how you can contribute to the NSW War Memorials Register.
