Description / Background

The North Star Second World War Honour Roll is a rectangular board, constructed from a dark timber central panel and a lighter timber surround. The memorial is affixed to a wall in the Molly Makim Hall, opposite the North Star War Memorial Park

The Warialda Standard and Northern District Advertiser, 24 November 1947 reported that the unveiling of the roll had been postponed because of rain but was to take place on the following Saturday. At that stage, the roll had been erected in the public hall. Mr and Mrs Doolin of 'Myall Downs' donated the board in memory of their son Frank, who had been killed in New Guinea. The memorial bore the names of 63 men who had enlisted from the district.

The unveiling was held on 30 November 1947 at St Peter's Church of England Hall at North Star. The Warialda Standard, 22 December described the ceremony in detail. Some 180 people attended and Mr C.L. Sutton, President of the Welcome Hall Committee, presided over the event. He thanked the Doolin family for their generous donation and then called on special guest Brigadier M.A. Ferguson to unveil the board. Mr Doolin thanked the people for attending and the Committee and the Welcome Home Fund for their work during the war. The event closed with an afternoon tea.

The honor board was later moved and is now located in the Molly Makim Hall.
