Description / Background

This war memorial consists of a white marble honour roll dedicated to those from the two North Coast villages of Piggabeen and Cobaki who enlisted in the Second World War. It is decorated with the crossed Union Jack and Australian flags.

During the war, a Piggabeen Welfare Committee was created to assist the welfare of individuals and families of those who served. The honorary secretary of the Committee, H.R. Norvill, advertised the ceremony of unveiling the roll in the Tweed Daily, 7 March 1949 to be held on 8 March 1949 in the Piggabeen Hall at 8pm.
