Sinclair Public School and Long Plain First World War Roll of Honour, Inverell Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Sinclair Public School and Long Plain First World War Roll of Honour is a timber board, with a simple pediment at the top. It contains the names of 20 men who served in the war, neatly printed in gold across two columns. The left-hand side lists ex-students of the school and the right-hand side lists residents of Long Plain. This board was created in 2021 and was financed by the Long Plain community. It was commissioned to replace the original paper honour roll from 1917 (image 2 above). The original paper roll was presented to the Sinclair Public School by Mr T. G. Mitchell of Long Plain and was unveiled at the school on 6 October 1917. A detailed report of the unveiling was described in the Inverell Times shortly after on 9 October. The gathering was so large, the school's verandah was used for the event. Mrs Bell, mother of the two soldiers who served, unveiled the roll. In 1922, the Long Plain Soldier's Memorial Hall was opened and the roll was relocated there. In time, it was moved to the Inverell Pioneer Village RSL Museum. In 1942, it was repaired and restored. The newer timber roll is now on display at the museum, in place of the paper version. It is available for viewing during the opening hours of the museum and village.
