Description / Background

The Snare Brook Second World War Honour Roll is a timber shield, attached to a timber backing board. It is decorated at the top with the Rising Sun emblem of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces painted in gold.

The roll lists the names of 12 men who served in the First World War who had a connection to the community of Snare Brook, also spelt Snarebrook, located near Bellingen on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Four names are marked with a cross and are labelled 'Died'.

To date, no details about the history of this roll have been found in local newspapers. It may have been originally unveiled at Snare Brook, but is now found in the Bellingen Museum, where it is available to view during opening hours.

It is possible the roll was made by the Bellingen Furniture Factory, a local firm conducted by L. McNally and G. Griffiths that started during the First World War. Several other honour rolls in the museum's collection are of a similar design, which suggests they were made by the same person or company.
