Description / Background

This war memorial is a metal street lamp, positioned on a stone pedestal. Attached to the sides of the pedestal are four granite tablets, one bearing the dedication and the others inscribed with an honour roll of those who served in the Boer War.

The following information was supplied by Susan Appleyard (Town Planner, Deniliquin Shire Council):

Erected in memory of Trooper James Mason who was killed in action at Familie Hoek in 1901, the memorial has a solid bluestone base supporting a second stone. White granite tablets on four sides bear Trooper Mason's name, together with the names of 31 Deniliquin soldiers who served in the Boer War. It is topped by a memorial lamp on a pedestal. The memorial is located on the roundabout.
