Tyalgum Great War Roll of Honour Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial consists of two matching timber rolls of honour. They feature a classical pediment at the top, decorated with carvings of a garland and other floral motifs. On the left and right sides of both boards are carved columns flanking the names, which are painted in gold. There are 71 names in total, with 36 on the first board and 35 on the second. A public meeting was held in Tyalgum on 18 October 1919 to plan for the unveiling of the "Citizens' Honor Roll" (Tweed Daily, 24 October 1919). In the Tweed Daily on 26 November 1919, Mr J.C. Mallet, honorary secretary of the unveiling committee, advertised the event for the evening of 12 December. A "record crowd" attended the function, which took the form of a concert. The boards were unveiled by Mesdames Stewart and Frankham. At the interval, two medals were presented to the families of two of the fallen soldiers: Mr and Mrs W.J. Stewart senr., and Mr and Mrs McGregor (Tweed Daily, 18 December 1919). The rolls were made by Tritton and Co., noted furniture manufacturers of Brisbane, Queensland. The company was founded by Frederick Tritton and the Brisbane Courier, 29 August 1931, published a detailed history of the firm's development. The memorial is located inside the Tyalgum Community Hall and access is by appointment/tour.
