Wardell and District First World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a polished timber honour roll for the First World War. It is a simple rectangular board, decorated with the golden coat of arms of Australia at the top and decorative leaf patterns in each top corner. The names of men from Wardell and district who served in the war are printed in gold over eight columns across the main body of the board. The list is in alphabetical order. The roll was developed by the Blackwall Historical Society, using funds received from an Anzac Centenary Grant. It was made under the guidance of Margaret Kennedy and Lorraine Judge, with research by the late Barbara van Bekkum. The board was created in 2015 for the Wardell and District War Memorial Hall. Although the hall was established in the 1950s, no honour roll for the First World War was created at the time. When installed, it was accompanied by framed photos and details of many of the local diggers named (The Blackwall Bugle newsletter, Issue No. 36, June 2015). The society also published a list of 29 district soldiers who died overseas during the war, in their newsletter, The Blackwall Bugle, in December 2018 (Issue no. 57).
