Woolgoolga Public School First World War Roll of Honour and Second World War Commemorative Plaque Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a polished timber roll of honour, with a Norman-shaped pediment at the top. The names of 41 ex-pupils of Woolgoolga Public School who served in the First World War are printed in gold across three columns. Those who were wounded or killed are marked with an asterisk or Latin cross respectively. The roll was unveiled at the school on 27 June 1919 by Mrs A.M. Younger. The Daily Examiner, 3 July, reported on the well-attended event, stating it was "the greatest in the history of the school, and the ceremony was in honor of the greatest heroes in history." Attached to the wall below the roll is a plaque commemorating Victory in Europe and Victory in the Pacific. It was created as part of the 'Australia Remembers' program, which was a Federal Government initiative to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The plaque would have been established around 1995, as per the dates of the program. Access to the memorial is restricted as it is within a school.
