Harold Board was born 4 April 1897. He resided at the historic house known as 'Avondale', at 25 O’Connell Street, Parramatta.
On 26 June 1916, at the age of 19, he enlisted for service in the First World War. He joined the Australian Imperial Forces (service no. 770) and was initially appointed to the 8th Reinforcement Siege Artillery Brigade as a Gunner. While in England, he was reappointed to the 36th Heavy Artillery Group serving on the Western Front in Fromelles, France. He was medically discharged on 16 March 1918.
After the outbreak of the Second World War, Harold reenlisted in the Australian Military Forces on 19 August 1940, at the age of 43 (service no. N78118). He was appointed to the Provost Corp E C and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on 5 July 1945.
Harold died on 22 December 1977, at the age of 80. He was interned at Woronora Memorial Park.
