Wallangra and District Memorial Hall and First and Second World Wars Roll of Honour

The Wallangra and District Memorial Hall was built in 1955. It was constructed by the publican Mr D. Cross, using steel, timber and galvanised iron. 

The memorial hall appears to be a replacement for the earlier Wallangra Hall, which was opened on 19 April 1907 (The Inverell Times, 3 May 1907). During the First World War, the hall held 'welcome home' functions for soldiers, organised by the Soldiers' Welfare Committee.

After the Second World War, a movement developed to construct a public hall at Wallangra. The Inverell Times, 24 April 1953, reported that 530 pounds was raised at a meeting held on 18 April for the construction of the building. The report stated, "the amount was promised after a meeting held for the purpose decided to take steps to make an early start on the building." 

Fundraising efforts that year included two 'woolshed balls', held in September and October. An advertisement for the October event in the Warialda Standard and Northern Districts' Advertiser, 14 October 1953, referred to the building as the 'Wallangra Memorial Hall', identifying the community's intention to dedicate the building later on. 

The hall was constructed by 1955 and it was proclaimed under the Theatres and Public Halls Act 1908-1954 in the Government Gazette of the State of NSW on 22 July. On 16 Septmeber, the Gazette also announced the Wallangra and District War Memorial Hall Society had applied to register the hall as a venue for a Picture Theatre. It was referred to as the 'Wallangra and District War Memorial Hall'.

Located inside the hall is a timber honour roll for the First and Second World Wars. It is unknown when the roll was constructed or unveiled. It is available for viewing when the hall is open to the public for functions.
