St John's Anglican Church Great War Memorial Window, Camden Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background A large stained glass window with two main sections, one dedicated to Saint Mark and the other to Saint George. Above both is a tiny window with a golden cross on a red background. At the top of each of the main sections is a flower, a waratah for St Mark and a poppy for St George. Immediately beneath each flowers is a scroll bearing a scripture verse. At the very bottom of the windows is the main inscription. Inscription Scrolls at the top of both panes Greater love hath no man than this. They died without hate that love might live. Banner in St Mark's pane St Mark's Day 1915. Banners across the lower part of both panes Hallowed in Christ be the memory of those who died the death of honour for the freedom of the World. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, At the going down of the Sun and in the morning we will remember them. Across the bottom of both panes AMDG [To the greater glory of God] This memorial window was given by the parishioners of Camden in proud thanksgiving for those who gave their lives in the Great War which began 1914.
