Findley served in Gallipoli and France. He was wounded in the right leg at Gallipoli on 24 August 1915 and in the right leg in France on 14 November 1916.

His photograph, captioned "Private M. C. Findley. Balgownie.—Twice Wounded", appeared on page 21 of The Sydney Mail on 31 January 1917.
