This clearing dominates views of the Glenrock Lagoon area. The scouting movement acquired a 99 year lease adjacent to Glenrock Lagoon in 1932 and obtained freehold title to the property in 1971. The Burwood Colliery Under Manager's house built in 1887 suffered extensive earthquake damage in 1989 and has subsequently been renovated as the Scout headquarters to house mining and scouting artefacts. For the duration of World War II, the area and the buildings were used by the Defence Corps which built machine gun nests, gun emplacements and trenches. An extract from 'Glenrock Lagoon Cultural Landscape Conservation Management and Cultural Tourism Plan', NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, January 2003: The Glenrock Scout Camp is named as a memorial to those who died in WWII. In addition the Camp was taken over by the Home Guard during the war and a number of relics are associated with that period.
