Description / Background

Ashfield War Memorial is a stone column, approximately 10 metres high. It stands on a concrete base, which is positioned on a three-level platform. There are multiple plaques and inscriptions on the monument, however, it does not include an honour roll.

The memorial was first established following the First World War. It was dedicated on 26 November 1921 by His Excellency Sir Walter Davidson K.C.M.G. Governor of New South Wales.

Further engravings and plaques have been added since 1921, including an inscription commemorating soldiers who fought in the Second World War and three plaques, which commemorate the memory of Australians who fought in Malaya, Korea, Malaysia/Borneo, South Vietnam, South Africa, and Peacekeeping operations, as well as Polish servicemen and servicewomen.
