Within the park are also a Second World War memorial arch and a small concrete plinth with a brass plaque dedicated to an individual soldier who fell in the First World War. The Wyalong Advocate, 2 December 1919 reported that the new park at Lake Cargelligo was officially opened on 15 November 1919. The President of the Lachlan Shire, Councillor W.H. Crouch performed the ceremony. The park was named by competition, with the name 'Liberty Park' being selected. Ladies of the town also organised a tree planting project, which saw each tree planted having a disc with the name of the soldier and his military record attached. In 1921 action was taken by the Soldiers Memorial Committee to place a proposed design before the Public Monuments Advisory Board through Mr E.A. Buttenshaw M.L.A. The initial design included soldier figures and the Board was not prepared to approve it because of the number of soldier figures erected within the state. The Board recommended a different type of memorial should be erected and offered to govern a competition and cover incidental expenses. Not all members of the community supported establishing a monument, as many felt that a Cottage Hospital should be constructed. The committee continued with the proposal for a monument and fund raising was held to finance the project. The Wyalong Advocate, 20 April 1923 reported that the honorary secretary of the Lake Cargelligo sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia stated that the unveiling of the monument would be held on Anzac Day. The Albury Banner, 4 May 1923 published a detailed report of the event. Notes on veterans' names: The entry for V Cassells is spelt on the memorial as V Casells. The entry for Ted Perry-Circuitt is spelt on the memorial as Ted Circuitt.
