6.Queanbeyan Age 22.02.1916:"The many friends of Mr. J. McGrath, at one time partner in the firm of Doughty anrd McGrath, will regret to learn of his serious ill ness in.hospital at Ghezireh. Mr. McGrath joined the Australian Ex peditionary Forces and sailed for the front about six or seven months ago. His friends in Bungendore will be glad to hear of any improvement in his condition."

7. Queanbeyan Age & Queanbeyan Observer 7.4.1916 reported that Private J.McGrath,formerly of Bungendore had returned to Sydney.

8. NAA File: Promoted Temporary Corporal 23.10.1915 and to Corporal 4.1.1916 that is at variance with the Nominal Roll where he is listed as a Private.
