6. Queanbeyan Age and Queanbeyan Observer. 19 November 1918:" Honour Roll: Another of our brave district boys have gone under in the Great War. We refer to Pte. John Roach, son of Mr. John Roach of Bollard's Flat, Captain's Flat. The deceased was better known as "Bob" Roach and at one time was a well-known jockey. “Bob" enlisted in New Zealand and has been in France over two years. He was killed in action in France on the 1st October, 1918. He was a fine young man and a favourite with all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. To the bereaved parents and relatives we offer our deep sympathy in the loss of their soldier son."
7. No record of Pte John Roach can be found on the Commonwealth War Graves website nor a number of New Zealand Nominal Roll/Roll of Honour sites.
8. NSWBDM: He was born in 1882 as the son of John and Mary (Monaghan) Roach of Norongo near Captain's Flat.1903 Electrol Roll records a John (junior) at Laurel Cottage.
9. Application to use Rising Sun Badge: On 03 November 2015 the Bungendore War Memorial Committee applied to Army Branding to use the Rising Sun badge on a proposed street signs in the town of Bungendore as part of the Centenary of ANZAC Commemorations. On 21 December ARMY Brand Manager advised that the foregoing request had been considered but not approved on the basis that it would be more appropriate to utilise the New Zealand Army Badge.
10. Summary by PJH: John Roach's Service details remain "Unknown” for the purposes of this record. In this context it is proposed that his name should only be included as a street name in Palerang (Wamboin 2620) as the lowest priority and subject to further research.
