This memorial consists of a single Aleppo pine tree which is a descendant of the trees grown from seeds gathered from the remaining Aleppo pine at Plateau 400 in Gallipoli. The tree is in a brick garden bed purpose built by Bellingen Shire Council, and is surrounded by a protective metal fence and plantings of rosemary. There is a single bronze plaque.
This memorial was established to provide an additional memorial in Bellingen, in a quieter place and one which does not require road closures to conduct ceremonies. Anzac Day services are held at Bellingen's main memorial in Hyde Street and require significant coordination with police, Roads and Maritime Services, State Emergency Services and local council to manage road closures and crowd control. The Lone Pine is situated in a quieter area of town in Piggott Park which is adjacent to the Bellingen Public School. Since its dedication, the local RSL Sub-branch has held Remembrance Day services at this memorial. The students and staff of the school have become a central part of the Remembrance Day services which are well attended by Sub-branch memebers and members of the local community.
