Trundle Hedge of Remembrance and Memorials Middle Image Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Hedge of Remembrance runs across the front of the block of land by the side of the Trundle War Memorial School of Arts. The hedge was planted from cuttings originating from wild rosemary brought back from the hills of Gallipoli in 1915. Immediately behind the hedge is a large rough-hewn local rock with four plaques attached, and flanked by two memorial trees. The hedge was established on 6 October 2010 and dedicated the following year on 11 November. The memorial trees were planted and dedicated on 11 November 1991. Inscription Plaque 1 This hedge has been produced from cuttings originating from wild rosemary brought back from the hills of Gallipoli by a wounded digger in 1915. The rosemary was planted by Year 5 and 6 students from St Patrick’s Primary School on 6 October 2010. Dedicated Friday 11.11.2011 Ancient Greeks believed that rosemary made their memories stronger. Today people wear sprigs of rosemary as a symbol of remembrance for those who have died in wars. Plaque 2 These trees were planted as a memorial to the Bogan Gate Supply Coy. and the members who served at Bogan gate from 1942 to 1991. Also in appreciation of many years of happy association in the Trundle district planted and dedicated by Major Colin Gould, last Commanding Officer of Bogan gate Supply Coy. Planting of the trees and unveiling of the plaque was done on Remembrance Day 11th November 1991 Trundle War Memorial Hall and Trundle RSL sub-Branch.
