Veteran Notes/Bio

Methvin, Thomas Andrew; age 25; address - Emmaville. A METHVIN- THOMAS ANDREW METHVIN (Methven)
There was a family of Methvins who lived at Gorrianawa, Baradine. James Mithvin (1896) married Eliza Casey was one of the earlier settlers of Baradine & members of the family lived in Baradine until 1977. Eliza Methvin married Daniel Casey & also lived in Baradine & both are buried in Baradine. A Methvin is on the Baradine Baths memorial as having served in WW1.
Thomas Methvin was born in 1891 in Beechworth, Victoria to Thomas Andrew Methvin and Mary Young and was the eldest of 7 children- Thomas, Rubina, David, Carol, Catherine, Ethel & Walter. He lived in Emmaville , NSW ( near Inverell). He is recorded as enlisting into the AIF in 1916 aged 25 but there are no army records available. He married Iris Jane Curry in November 1917 in Emmaville and worked as a train driver so this may be the connection to Baradine as well. He and his wife had 4 sons and he died in Glen Innes in 1971 aged 80. He is remembered on the Baradine RSL memorial Wall & the Cenotaph at the baths. There were also a number of other Methvens from Emmaville who served in WW2. (notes from Elizabeth Cutts)
