Trooper Mark Donaldson, a Dorrigo resident, was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) for his actions in Afghanistan.
He joined the Australian Army on 18 June 2002 and on 2 September 2008 was involved in an ambush of a combined Afghan, US and Australian Army convoy. For his actions on that day, he was awarded a Victoria Cross.
The Dorrigo Trooper Mark Donaldson VC Park has a shelter with three panels which outline the history of the Victoria Cross, provides information about the Afghanistan conflict, the role of the Special Air Service (S.A.S.) troops there as well as a section on Mark Donaldson and the Dorrigo Connection.
Donaldson was born on 2 April 1979 and grew up at Dorrigo.
