Private Andrew Mills Memorial Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This memorial is an illuminated address, displayed in a dark wooden frame behind glass. It is located in the Nundle Memorial Hall. It was presented to the parents of Private Andrew Mills in May 1918 . The birth of Andrew to William and Mary Mills was registered at Tamworth and he attended Woolomin Public School. As a single labourer, he enlisted as a private in the 3rd Battalion, 16th Reinforcement on 10 January 1916. The unit embarked from Sydney on board HMAT SS Makarini on 1 April 1916. As a private in the 55th Battalion, he died of wounds on 24 September 1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium. He was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery in Belgium. Inscription In memory of Private Andrew Mills 55th Battalion Australian Imperial Forces (Son of Mr and Mrs William Mills, Woolomin.) Wounded at Bullecourt - Died in France, 25th September, 1917. Aged 22 years. This memorial is presented to his parents by the residents of Woolomin, Bowling Alley Point and Duncan's Creek as a token of their deep sympathy and of their appreciation of his Noble Sacrifice in the cause of freedom and in defence of the Empire in the greatest war the world has ever known.
